Motion designer jobs alaska11/9/2023 ![]() ![]() There's a single business in Anchorage that specializes in 3D modeling/animation, but they focus mostly on technical and industrial subject material for the oil/gas/mineral extraction industries.Īs for other opportunities, there are about 8-9 advertising agencies in Anchorage, each with some graphic designers on staff. There's a small and relatively tight-knit community of graphic designers and illustrators here in Anchorage, but I can count on one hand the number of people here in town with 3D modeling skills (including myself). Anchorage, and Alaska in general, is a very small marketplace. I work for a company in Anchorage doing motion graphics, animation, video, and some very infrequent 3D work too. ![]() That also means that many of us in creative positions must also have diverse skill sets. With 3D, Anchorage just isn't big enough to support the kind of clientele who regularly need that kind of work. Many people involved in film production are moving out of state now that the tax credit program has been cut. Well, you're not finding much of anything because there's not much of that sort of thing around here. If you're really set on working here I'd brush up your other skills and market yourself as someone who can do it all. Usually people want to hire someone who is a jack of all trades and can do graphic design, video, web, etc. There's just not enough work to support many specialists in creative fields. ![]() That said, Alaska as a whole for design work tends to be a place where specialization doesn't get you far - it's one of the unfortunate realities of living in a small state like this. There's at least a handful employed at UAF at the moment. I work as a web designer for one of the institutes and the office I'm in also employs a 3d animator. I'm not sure what the situation is in Anchorage, but here in Fairbanks the research institutes in particular have need for a lot of creative professionals for data visualization and in-house production artists of all sorts. u/chugach3dguy definitely makes a lot of good points, but I wouldn't necessarily rule out the possibility of finding something. ![]()
